Stepping back from the trees for a second, it all starts with the raw materials stage, before the clothes have actually been made: fiber selection. Amour Vert works directly with mills to develop signature fabrics that are soft, durable, beautiful and sustainable. One of Amour Vert’s favorite fibers is TENCEL™ Lyocell, a semi-synthetic fiber that is part of the Rayon family made from renewable wood from Eucalyptus trees, which grow fast and thick on low-grade land with no need for irrigation, and has properties almost identical to cotton. Some other favorites are Beechwood Blend, Organic Cotton, OEKO-TEX Mulberry Silk, Cupro, and Ethical Wool.
Although planting trees is their main focus, Amour Vert also focuses on other aspects of sustainability. All of Amour Vert’s pieces are also made in limited quantities to ensure high production standards and eliminate excess waste. 97% of all products are made in California, most of them within a few miles from their San Francisco office. This greatly cuts back on transportation costs and allows for minimum a carbon footprint. This also lets them conduct daily visits to their factories to ensure fair wages and good treatment of workers.
